Planning your project

From first ideas to a clear proposal

You don’t need every detail worked out before you get in touch. Here’s how we get to know your space, discuss the budget and develop an initial design you can make a decision on.

How we get started

The starting point depends on the information you already have. These are the main steps from our first conversation to agreeing the project.

  1. Have an initial conversation

Start in the showroom where possible, or arrange a Zoom call. We’ll discuss your ideas, your space and the budget you have in mind.

  2. Share the details of your room

Photos, rough sizes, architectural plans and examples of designs you like help us understand what you’re considering.

  3. Visit and measure where needed

We generally visit your home to measure and talk through the room together. Suitable existing plans can sometimes be used for the initial proposal.

  4. Prepare an initial concept and price

We develop a concept and put a price to it, so you can see how the design and budget fit together.

  5. Review the proposal in our showroom

We go through the concept and price together in person. This gives you the opportunity to see materials and talk through the details.

  6. Decide whether to go ahead

Minor revisions can be considered at this stage. Once the project is agreed, we move into full detailed drawings.

The initial consultation and concept drawing are free. Full detailed drawings follow once you have agreed to go ahead.

Your planning questions, answered

Where should I start?

Start with what you would like to change about your current room. What is difficult to use? What do you need more space for? What would make everyday life easier?

You don’t need to arrive with a finished design. A conversation, some photos and a few ideas are enough to begin exploring the possibilities.

Do I have to visit the showroom for the first conversation?

We prefer to meet in the showroom where possible, but you can start with a Zoom call if that is easier. Sharing photos and any plans beforehand helps us make that conversation useful.

Once we have prepared your initial concept and price, we invite you into the showroom to review them together. We do that stage in person, rather than presenting the proposal over the phone.

What should I bring or send before we talk?

Useful starting points include photos of the room, any floor plans or measurements you already have, and examples of designs or finishes you like. Architectural or builder’s plans are particularly helpful if you are extending or renovating.

Tell us about anything that needs to stay, the appliances or features you would like, and your main frustrations with the existing room. A budget range and any target dates are also helpful, even if they are still provisional.

Do I need a clear design or budget already?

You don’t need a finished design. Helping you turn your ideas into a workable layout is part of the process.

It does help to discuss the budget early. We want you to have a realistic understanding of the likely cost, so you can decide whether our approach fits your project before we develop the design. If you are unsure where to start, our kitchen cost guide gives some examples.

Will you visit our home before designing?

Usually, yes. Visiting lets us measure the room and talk through your ideas while we’re standing in the space. It helps us understand what works, what doesn’t, and how you’d like to use it.

If you already have suitable architectural or builder’s plans, we may be able to use those for an initial concept and price. We’ll discuss what is needed during our first conversation.

Can you give an estimate from architectural plans?

Yes, suitable plans can help us put together a rough estimate. We still like to speak with you first, because a floor plan alone doesn’t tell us the specification, finish or level of detail you have in mind.

A rough estimate is a starting point for the budget conversation. The concept and its proposed specification give us more detail to work from when putting a price to the project.

Do you charge for the initial consultation or concept drawing?

No. The initial consultation and initial concept drawing are free of charge. We prepare a concept and price, then invite you into the showroom to go through them together.

Minor revisions or additions can be discussed at this stage. This initial work is separate from the full detailed drawings, which follow once you have agreed to go ahead with the project.

When should I contact you during a renovation?

It is useful to talk while there is still room to influence the layout, particularly before positions for plumbing, electrics, windows or doorways are fixed.

If you have architectural or builder’s plans, share them with us. We can discuss the kitchen or furniture alongside the wider work and identify decisions that need to be made early.

How long should I allow for the whole process?

Allow time for the initial conversation, any home visit, concept development, the showroom review and your own decisions. The time needed for these stages varies with the project and the revisions involved.

Our existing guide for a typical project is 8–10 weeks from final sign-off. That is not the same as 8–10 weeks from your first enquiry. Discuss your proposed dates with us early so we can talk through a suitable timetable.

What happens after we see the concept and price?

You decide whether you would like to proceed. We can discuss minor revisions or additions, with the aim of settling the design direction and cost as early as possible.

Once the job is agreed, we move into full detailed drawings. If you are unsure about any part of the proposal, raise it during the review so we can talk it through before that next stage.

Ready for an initial conversation?

Tell us about your room, what you would like to change and any plans you already have. We can discuss a showroom meeting or a Zoom call to get started.
